Hello, my name is Kimberly Olson, also known as the Goal Digger Girl and I am back for another episode of hashtag get lit where we crush your business in less than 10 minutes. In this episode I’m going to teach you how to get your first 500 subscribers on YouTube and this works great. Even if you’ve been trying for awhile or you have been growing your account and you wanted to know the secrets to success, how can you grow it quicker? I’m going to teach you that and more in this episode.

Alright, so my first YouTube channel I ever had, I started in 2011 or 12 in 2011 and it was much easier back then. I would release a video twice a week and I’d get over a thousand video views like that and that’s not the case anymore unless you are a well established account and you’ve figured this all out. So that channel is called FitKim TV. If you want to check it out, it’s linked on this, it’s linked here to my account. That one has over a million views on it. It has over 8,000 subscribers. But again, it has longevity to it. And when I came over to this platform or to this account and started the Goal Digger Girl, when I launched my brand two years ago, I wanted to have a different channel with different content and it was a whole new game. I couldn’t just post and get tons of videos.

So my strategy at the time I was actively building on Facebook first and secondary was Instagram. It wasn’t YouTube. So what I was doing is I was actually taking my Facebook videos and saving them and repurposing them on YouTube and I wasn’t getting any traction and my account wasn’t growing. So a few months ago, about two months ago, go, yeah, a little less than two months ago, I looked at my account and there’s just like no followers, no interaction. And I was like, you know what? I’ve got to conquer this whole YouTube thing. So I’ve been plugging away at what I’m going to teach you today. And the best part is I’m just a little bit away from a thousand subscribers. If you’re depending on when you’re watching this, I’m probably past that. Thank you. If you’re one of my subscribers, please hit that button below. If you’re not and it grew so fast, I just am excited to see the traction, the engagement, the likes, the comments because of the things.

So first up is you need to respect the platform. You cannot, in my opinion, just repost stuff from other platforms. You need to come on with that, you know, teaching mentality or if you’re doing tutorials or maybe inspirational. It needs to be designed for the platform. So if you go on Facebook and you’re like, Hey, share this out, comment like it and all the things people are going to know that that’s not a YouTube video on YouTube, it’s just going to feel disingenuine. You have to respect the platform. Design your video specifically for YouTube. Okay, so that’s number one. Number two is you need to find new topics that are trending. So what I’m going to do is I’m going to share my screen and we’re going to pop over to my YouTube account so I can show you really quickly what this looks like.

So what you’re going to do is we want to know what are the things out there that are trending. Okay? So the first thing you’re going to do is you’re going to find people who are in your niche. Okay? Who are the people that are already doing what you want to do on YouTube? So I’ll give you an example, Sonny, she’s someone who I really like. I’ve never, I know, is it Linda or I don’t know how to say her name. Sunny, I’m so sorry. But you’re one of those people that like I stumbled upon when I was trying to grow my Instagram. And your name always came up. I loved your training style. So shout out to Sunny. But what I noticed is her account, there’s a lot of similarities to what I’m doing with social media. She’s big on YouTube and then secondary Instagram, I’m really big on Facebook, secondary, Instagram, and I just love her style.

I love how real and natural she has, and she’s a natural curly haired girl like me. So what you’re going to do is you’re going to go to someone’s account that is similar to yours, and I might’ve actually learned this from Sunny, but this goes way back in the day when I first had my first account and learned about it, you know, SEO and things like that. So what you’re going to do is you’re going to go to your competitors, and I have an abundant mindset, but people in your same niche, you’re going to go to their page and you’re going to go to videos, okay? Then what you’re going to do is you’re going to go, instead of a, it’s going to be sorted by sort by over here in the corner, you’re going to go to most popular, not date added, but most popular.

Okay? What we’re looking for Sunny’s been crushing YouTube for four years. I want to know what are her most popular videos now. Sometimes it’s context. You know, four years ago, something might’ve just been coming out, like Snapchat for example. You know, that was the new hot thing. Of course she’s going to get a gazillion views on it, right? So I might not, this Snapchat’s not my wheelhouse, it’s just not. But I’m looking at top editing apps and I’m like, Oh my goodness, I love editing apps. Like I, no, not really editing apps. I love Instagram stories and all that stuff. So maybe that’s what she needs. Um, but I’m looking at the, see what are the popular topics now this is key. I’m never going to copy her. I’m going to look at her account for inspiration, never copy titles, never, never copy anything.

Okay. This goes to just videos. I’m an author, like you never want to copy anything, but you can use it as inspiration. It’s all been done. Okay. She’s not the first to ever do a training on Snapchat. So, or maybe she was, okay. So what you’re going to do is you’re just going to look and say, okay, out of these things, what would I like to teach on? Or depending on the style of your, of your YouTube channel. But for me it’s teaching, right? I’m teaching you how to crush your goals, crush social media. So I’m gonna look at this Instagram definitely. Um, you know this could be a great one. I don’t have this one right now. I have it for Facebook, but I can also say, okay that was really popular. How to get more views on YouTube. I could do that for how to get more views on your Facebook lives cause that’s my jam.

So I could use that as inspiration to figure out my topics. So now I can start to see what’s trending, what’s working, what are people looking for on her account? Okay, so you want to find new topics that are trending and then you can start to see what’s working for other people’s accounts. Number three is you’re going to find new topic no, you’re going to share on social media. This is really, really important. If you go to all this work to create a video, a great video that you’re putting together and YouTube, it doesn’t have to be highly edited. Mine isn’t just me. We throw in a little subtitle on there. My, my boy Joey, he’s a rock star and my girl Anna, who’s my operations director and makes it, you know, beautiful at the end. So they do a couple of things on it, but it’s just me.

I’m not edited. There’s nothing, nothing fancy here. It’s just me. Okay? So if you take the time to make a video, you want to leverage it, right? So you’re going to share it on social media. So what I do is for a couple of my most popular, I don’t do it for every YouTube video. I do it for my popular ones that I know people respond to. I post a question on Facebook that will get them to say yes, they want the video. For example, this video I’m going to post on my Facebook page and say, and in my stories on Instagram and Facebook, I’m going to say, do you, would you like to know how I, I blew past 500 subscribers on YouTube. Everybody and their brother in my network is going to say yes because they want to get on YouTube.

They might not even be doing anything on YouTube, but something in them is going to go, I want to know what she did. I’ll save it for later. I’m not ready right now, but I want to get her video. They say, me, me, me, me, me. I drop the link. I get them the link. I do the swipe up on Instagram. Boom. I’ve got tons of people getting eyeballs on this stuff. Okay. The other thing I do is I actually put a teaser on IGTV that will say, and you’ll see it for this one. Hey, I’m wanting to let you know I’ve got this new episode, blah, blah, blah. It’s a couple minutes here and I put the link to this YouTube video in the description because you can’t post links on IGTV they can copy it, come on over and so it’s a way to promote it.

So on social media you want to be sharing it out and talking about it. I also will reference it when I’m training, so today I did a training on the top five. I should do it on here, but the top five trends for 2020 for Instagram. I did a bunch of research. I did a training on my business page on Facebook called the Goal Digger Girl. When I got to, one of the points at one of the trends is that the likes are going away for Instagram globally, so I said and if you want the full training on this head to my YouTube channel to get the video, just put link below and ManyChat, we’ll message it to you because we automate that and that way we don’t have to respond to every single comment. Who has time for that? I wish I did. Okay.

Number four, you are going to send this amazing YouTube training you did to your email list. This is one of the things that I’m actually working on is I have so many things going on all the time. I’m always promoting, promoting, promoting. One of the things I need to get better at and I’m working on it is sending just value driven emails. What do I have going on? You know, is it a Facebook live? Is it this YouTube video I can send to my email list? If you’re new and you’re like, I don’t know how to build an email list, you fricking need to figure it out, I need to do a training on that. Because you don’t own Facebook, you don’t own YouTube, you don’t own Instagram, you own your email list and it’s the best way to build relationships and nurture, nurture those relationships, and eventually have them become customers or join your team.

So at the minimum, you go on YouTube once a week or twice a week and you email that out to your list, which I need to make a note to do that because if you’re on my list, you need to see this video. And then last but not least, is to be consistent. That’s the number one thing I see that people struggle with when it comes to Facebook lives being consistent on Instagram. And of course, YouTube, if you’re consistent, the algorithm of YouTube will help you get more exposure on your videos. And I saw this as soon as we settled on twice a week. I played around with once a week and three times a week. It was too much to do three times a week. So we do twice a week. When I settled on that and was consistent, I noticed that I was getting a lot more video views right off the bat without me even promoting it. And I believe that’s because of more subscribers, but also because YouTube, the YouTube algorithm gods are smiling upon me. So if this was helpful, hit subscribe, like this video. Comment below and, let me know your number, where you’re at right now, and what’s your goal in the next 30 days? What number would you like to see for your YouTube channel? Thank you for watching. Until next time, get lit in your business and set your soul on fire. We’ll see you later. Bye bye.
