Productivity is everything, no matter what type of business you’re running. Setting a schedule and blocking time on your calendar is key for staying organized and crossing items off of your to-do list!
With time blocking, you are blocking off a chunk of time for an appointment with an intention to complete one specific task. It is also during a specific time slot—not just when you can get around to it. You have to be able to commit to this time and ensure that you complete the task at hand.
The first step is to open up your planner or weekly calendar! Whether you use an e-calendar or pen and paper, there are many ways to get creative with blocking time each week.
When chunking blocks of time each week, start by writing down all of the key results you’re looking to achieve with your business. What are the steps you need to take to reach those goals? What is a recurring task that needs a dedicated time on your calendar each week?
Think of different labels to use for each priority of your business. Pick a color for each different bucket of tasks so that it is visually appealing and you quickly understand the expectations. This will help you understand if you have a good balance of different activities within your personal and professional life. Be sure not to book anything else during each designated block of time.
Write down all of the priorities in your life. Pick three top priorities every day that you do not break, no matter what happens. Then, plug them into your calendar. It’s okay to reorganize and reprioritize—that’s the beauty of using an e-calendar. Now, you’re ready to get rolling and crush the day!
