Meditation for Mental Focus + Peak Productivity

When most of us think of meditation, we conjure up images from the movie Eat, Pray, Love when the author Elizabeth Gilbert made her way to India and spent hours upon hours in silence meditating dutifully among others. However, with this misguided interpretation of what it is, we miss out on what it can be. Meditation is the gateway to extreme mental focus and peak productivity for all entrepreneurs.

When I do private coaching in the network marketing industry, just like most entrepreneurs, they have a ton of ideas, loads of goals and big dreams. However, when we dig in deep to look at their daily activity, focused action and productivity are almost always non existent. It’s the catch-22 for most wanting the laptop lifestyle and making the commitment to daily meditation practices can be the best thing they can do to get what they want.

Entrepreneurs are extremely creative and because of that, their minds tend to go in a million different directions all the time and it can be  super hard to focus. When they set out to tackle their day they tend to feel disorganized. To gain mental clarity and the ability to be efficient with the projects in front of them, meditation can help them get there. By quieting the mind, even for a short bit, it allows the brain to be trained to focus for longer periods of time.

Just like we do strength training in the gym to increase muscle endurance, we can “strength train” our mind by incorporating daily meditation. People often quit the gym after the first few times of attending because it’s hard or doesn’t come easy yet. It’s the same thing with meditation. It takes time to build the muscle that allows you to develop laser like focus and be able to cultivate peak productivity on a daily basis.

It’s ideal to start your day off with meditation but I personally will do it as soon as I can find a quiet space or a break in my schedule to do so. I encourage you to try the app Headspace and do the daily challenge of starting with five or ten minutes in length to develop the habit.  Studies have shown even just ten minutes a day can improve the neuropathways in your brain in only two weeks’ time! So what are you waiting for? It’s time to meditate:).
