3 Social Media Strategies for Influencers

From Direct Seller to Influencer

Why are you on social media? If you’re in direct selling, network marketing, or the service industry, then you’re probably on social media to inform people of your business and what you have to offer. In this blog post, I’m going to share the exact strategies I used to grow my business online and become an influencer that don’t involve cold messaging, spamming your timeline with pictures of your products, or overwhelming your connections with business posts that don’t relate to them.

There’s a big shift that needs to take place if you’re looking to level up from being a direct seller to an influencer, but I’m here to share that it’s not hard to do. It just takes time and commitment.

The word ‘influencer’ has been watered down over the years. I don’t want you to think of The Kardashians as what you aspire to be because they walked a completely different line than the rest of us. An influencer is someone who influences another to make a decision – whether it be good or bad.

You could influence people to start their day off with gratitude by making a post asking them to write out 3 things they’re thankful for. Because up-leveling your profile means you are showing up as YOURSELF, not as your product. Make sense?

Social Media Presence

When it comes to social media, ask yourself: How are you showing up online right now? What do people see of you when they come to your profile? A mom? Fitness junkie? Health and wellness guru? You want people to know what you do, but not have it overwhelm their timeline.

Take my profile for example. People know what I do because I show up as a Goal Digger online. I share tips on how to structure your day and how to overcome mindset blocks. And I also share health and wellness tips that relate to my network marketing business. It is easier to just post about your products and pray someone jumps on board, but we need to stop doing that. That’s not who you are – you are not your business or your products.

It’s definitely a bit harder to get creative and you really have to think of how you want to present yourself to the world but I’m here to share with you 3 big ideas to create a rockstar social media presence and become an authentic influencer rather than a spammy direct seller. Ready?!

3 Strategies to Show Up Authentically Online

1. Make a mindset shift.

If you’ve got it in your mind that you’re a sales rep for a company and that’s how you should show up online, you need to break away from that. Shift to a mindset where you remind yourself, “You are your own brand.” There are thousands, if not millions of people who do what you do – so, why should they buy from you? Why are you watching my videos and following me? Because I own my power and my gifts. When you showcase your gifts, you’re giving other people permission to do the same.

Homework: Challenge yourself to show up online in a way that builds your know-like-trust factor and doesn’t overwhelm your time with photos of your products.

2. Decide how you want to show up online and do it.

People come to social media to connect. They don’t want to feel isolated. Learn how to build a community online and not just post and pray. Be the person that people enjoy coming online to see. They want to see you being human. Think of how you can influence, inspire, and encourage other people on social media? How can you get people to engage with that type of content. Hint: There are PLENTY of ways.

Homework: Do an audit of your social media and decide if that’s really how you want to appear to your audience.

3. Level up your posture.

You’re showing up as an influencer now, it’s time to nail down your posture. Show up as the best version of yourself. How can you make other’s days brighter? How can you help people? Look for ways that you can serve others with no strings attached. Send someone a podcast link you feel would resonate with them. Whatever you do, come onto social media with the intent to serve. I call that servant leadership

Homework: Connect with someone who interacts with your post today and send them a free resource that would help make their lives a bit easier.

How are you going to show up online?

A majority of the time I ask entrepreneurs why they started their own biz is because they want to help people. They have a product or a service that they know how to do well and they want to share that with others to make their lives a bit easier. Let go of the outcome of trying to sell and close people all the time. How are you going to show up online now, Goal Digger?!
