3 Steps to Gather Customer Testimonials to Grow Your Business

One of the best ways to grow your business is to attract leads through customer testimonials. And there’s so much money people leave on the table to try and get new leads.

What I mean by that is, there are so many people out there who could benefit from your business but, instead, you’re messaging the same people on your friends list about the same products/services you’ve always offered. OR, you will get a new customer and love on them for a while and then forget about them. I call that the love-em-and-leave-em strategy. It’s not a good strategy, but it happens.

In this blog post, I’m going to teach you the easiest ways to get customer testimonials and use them to leverage your attractor-factor. The only way the strategy that I’m going to teach you is going to work is if you make sure you’re following up, checking in, and giving all of your customers excellent customer service. They’re not buying from you because you represent a brand, they’re buying from you because you embody the mission of a product or service.

Create a Great Customer Experience Journey

After you get your new customer, put them in an automated nurture sequence. Whether it’s email marketing or text message marketing, this ensures that no one slips through the cracks. And, it gives every customer/client excellent and personalized customer service.

Don’t forget the follow-up process because that’s one of the most important steps in giving excellent customer service. It can be automated or personalized to each individual but this step cannot be skipped.

Alright, now that we’ve laid the groundwork for an excellent customer journey – let’s chat about how to gather customer testimonials and how we can use them to attract hot leads.

The Best Strategy for Gathering Customer Testimonials for Your Business

Step 1: Gather Social Proof

Social proof is a term related to influencer marketing meaning customers/clients leave an honest review of your products/services explaining how it helped them achieve their goals. This review can be in the form of a written testimonial, video content, or even before-and-after photos of the benefit of your business.

Because you’re following up with your customers, you will know when they find success with your biz! As soon as they share with you a positive outcome with your business, make sure to congratulate them on their progress and ASK PERMISSION to share their results. [Take it from me – I’ve made the mistake of sharing a before-and-after photo of someone who used my products without their permission and, let me tell you, you don’t want to make that mistake.]

Step 2: Create Social Proof Content

Once you’ve been given permission to share their success, create a story sequence out of it! Make sure to include their own words in the text of the story – that makes it more authentic to potential leads.

You should always use a call-to-action when sharing social proof because it immediately gives hot leads a next step to connect with you.

Step 3: Set Up / Get Customers Into A Referral Program

The customers who are willing to share with you and your audience their social proof need to be enrolled in your referral program. Why? Because they will help generate leads for you! When that person starts posting for you, they’re helping you build your business.

If you don’t have a referral program set up, create one! If you have gift cards you can give away or even credit points for your products, that’s at least a start.


These are steps that I took when I was first learning to build my business and it helped me generate leads and scale my business. Don’t get discouraged if you don’t gather testimonials right away – if you’re staying consistent with the other proper practices of building on social media, they will come to you.
