4 Social Media Categories to Boost Your Engagement

The Four Categories of Social Media Engagement

There are 4 reasons why people come onto social media: to connect, to be inspired, to get educated, to be entertained. Is your content fulfilling one of those 4 things?

In this training, I’m going to share how you can make your content fit into one of these 4 categories. That way, you can make sure you’re keeping your audience engaged and interested in your content.

Be inspirational.

To be inspirational means to share the wisdom that you learned during a time of struggle. With this category comes vulnerability. You need to learn how to share with your audience some personal aspects of your life. By doing so, it humanizes you and makes you more relatable.

One way to do this is to post a selfie with a story of how you overcame a tough obstacle. This allows for engagement from people who are going through a similar crisis or have gone through tough times as well. These types of posts are where you are going to share your success from the struggle.

Something to note: Posting quotes are a little overdone and not favored on the Facebook platform. If you have a quote graphic that you want to share, I suggest posting it on Instagram. And be sure to only post quote graphics once or twice a month. Get creative with how you express yourself and show vulnerability.

People want to feel connected.

If you’re trying to add value to everyone’s life, it’s not going to work. But, if you’re trying to add value to your ideal avatar’s life, that will convert. If you’re not connected to your audience, they’re not going to have that attraction to you and you’re not going to be relatable.

Remember: You’re on social media because you have a mission that you want to be shared. Find ways to connect with other people who are just as passionate about your goals as you are. If you’re connecting with people who share your interests, engagement with your audience is more likely.

Learn how to educate others.

People enjoy learning tips and tricks from other experts in their industry. If you can work in some golden nuggets of information around the niche you’re in, your audience will respond well to that.

If you’re in network marketing or direct sales, you’ll want to remember that it’s important to not drop your products in your content all the time.

Here’s an example of how you can drop helpful hints without bragging about your products. If you’re selling lipgloss, instead of dropping the link to your site, give tips on beauty hacks that your audience would enjoy. For example, do a Facebook Live that is 5 Tips to Get Read In 5 Minutes. One of your tips can be to swipe on some lipgloss and you can tell them which one you use and tell them to drop an emoji in the comments if they’re interested in it! It’s as easy as that.

Learn to be entertaining.

You don’t need to learn all of the trending dances or be a stand-up comedian to be entertaining but you do need to find a way to hold people’s attention. Watch what type of content other influencers are posting and getting engagement on. You may have to try many different types of content before you find your way, but I can promise you, if you stick to it you will find it!

When you implement these 4 commitments on social media, you’re going to see traction and you’re going to enjoy social media more because you’re bringing value to the table. Remember to actively continue building your audience and connect with people in your niche and who are your ideal avatar.
