Hey, Goal Diggers! I had the chance to sit down and chat with one of my favorite Goal Digger dudes, Simon Chan. He’s an honorary Goal Digger and has been for years and years. Simon is somebody that I look up to and still do because when I first got into network marketing, his MLM nation podcast was, and is still, one of the top-rated podcasts in the world. But most specifically, I loved how he teaches people how to serve, be leaders, and just be amazing network marketers.
Simon’s Story
Simon labels himself as a quiet Asian kid from Brooklyn, New York, who was raised in a very traditional stereotypical Asian family. It was all study, study, study, and work hard. But he had his dad as an example because, just from studying, his dad basically went from rags to riches. Even though Simon grew up in an upper-middle-class family, his dad came from a poor lifestyle in Hong Kong. Simon’s dad came to America to go to school to become a doctor. Simon describes his childhood as being one of “the richest kids in the public school”.
From an early age, Simon was taught that studying, working hard, and working long hours was what life was about and that eventually you get old and retire. When Simon was in his twenties, he got a low-paying job. But he loved it and was going to work hard to climb the corporate ladder. There were people he looked up to at that company, so he ended up staying there for 20 years. Simon thought all there was to life was the corner office and that to get there you had to work long hours. But then he read a book that changed everything.
The Book that Changed Simon’s Life
In the book Brought, author Robert Kiyosaki says you don’t need to live that way and can get paid a lot of money by not working. That is when he learned about network marketing. Simon had never heard of network marketing. With some quick research and reading a few more books, he felt that this was his calling.
