I know it’s not fun to hear, but it’s 100% true. Without a planner, calendar or DMO (daily method of operation), it’s going to be really difficult to grow or sustain your business, right? Sheer excitement about your opportunity can definitely fuel a strong start, but if your momentum fizzles out after that, it’s probable that your lack of daily planning or disorganization is catching up to you. Here’s what to do:
- Decide if you prefer a paper planner or an online calendar to use to schedule out your activity. It doesn’t matter if you don’t like doing it; think of it as a means to an end. Fill out any current appointments you have, meetings, events or anything else you can think of that is set in stone. If it’s something that happens the same time every week, go ahead and choose repeat if you’re using a digital calendar.
- Next, you’re going to implement time blocking. Instead of trying to squeeze in social media, prospecting and follow ups whenever you have a free minute or think of it, you’re going to plan ahead and block out chunks of time to focus on these Income Producing Activities. Let’s face it, if you don’t have it scheduled, the likelihood of you doing it is going to be based on your mood at the moment and that’s not exactly a good business model.
- Adjust as you go along to see what is working and what isn’t. Are you better at prospecting first thing in the morning to make sure it’s done or do you like to take time to be on messenger at night building meaningful conversations? Play around with when you’re putting things on your schedule and for how long and see what works best for your style.
It is simple, but it’s the thing I see missing time and time again with my clients and followers. It takes discipline to implement these steps, but other than working on your mindset, it’s hands-down the best strategy to move your business forward!
