Instagram is constantly adding new features and ways to promote your brand and business. I’ll walk you through presets, filters, and several apps that I use daily to crush it with my content on social media.
Filter versus Preset
Whenever you post a photo to your Instagram feed, the app will provide you with several different filters. The app provides many options and acts as an overlay for your photo.
When you think of your Instagram, think about the “feel” of your profile. Filters are a layover to go on top of the photo and enhance it to fit the theme. Think of how a camera lens works; filters are set up to work the same way.
A preset is a little bit more advanced. A preset allows you to customize lighting, background, and more of the fine details that aren’t changed by just adding a filter. Then, once your custom changes are made, you can save the preset for future uploads.
Apps that I love
VSCO
The VSCO app has amazing filters and presets! There are tons of free presets to access after importing photos from your camera roll. Pick out a few that you like and put the preset on several different pictures to see how it looks with different images.
Make a note of the ones that you like and that coordinate best with your brand, colors, fonts, etc. Once you define which ones are your favorite, they can be saved under the favorites section in order for you to quickly use it in other pictures. TIP: this app will also allow you to put filters on videos!
Adobe Lightroom
This one has to be my favorite! This app works really well with brightening and editing the quality of your photos. Once you make the changes to the preset and it fits your standards, you can save your own customized preset right in the app! From there, you can apply your custom settings to all future photos. If you choose to purchase a filter off of Etsy, you can quickly upload it into Lightroom and continue to grab the preset from there for future use.
Once you find the app and the preset that you love, it takes no time at all to insert your photo then share the end result with a customized flare that aligns with your personal brand. Scroll through some of your favorite Instagram accounts and make note of which styles you like and how creative users can be with their presets and filters.
