Do you have a brilliant idea and  want to quit your job to focus on launching that idea? Well, I highly suggest that you don’t do that. One of the biggest mistakes I see people make is they have this idea and they quit their job without any security. This leads to extreme stress about finances and gives a false belief that they can’t make their dream happen. Does that sound familiar? If this sounds like you, stay tuned, I am going to  walk you through how you can micro test your idea before quitting your job.

Dave Ramsey was my guide in this.

In my book, Becoming A Money Boss, I actually  talk about Dave Ramsey a lot. He has been a mentor to me and my journey in  getting my family out of debt. I used to listen to his radio show and  one of the most sage pieces of advice he said is to micro-test your idea. Test it out and see if your good idea on paper is a good idea in practice.

People need to allow themselves to be helped with their problems.

A lot of times we think we have this brilliant idea or we see people need something and think “I can help them.” You can’t reach out to individuals unsolicited and say, “I can help you with that.” People need to raise their hand that they want to work with you, or you need to bring them into your world with a lead magnet that you can create in your micro test.

Avoid deciding in the heat of the moment

There are plenty of success stories from people who quit their jobs and built seven figure empires. But that is not going to be the reality for everyone. You SHOULD follow your dreams, of course, (and dream big!) but you have to be smart about it. There is no harm in micro-testing your idea, so why not do it? It is the safest way to ensure that your idea has traction before launching it to the masses. Once you have tested it to small audiences and seen success consistently, you can consider leaving your full-time gig and moving into this new business venture.

No clients, no business.

Now, what is the best way to micro test? It’s simple! When you are looking at something specific you want to do, do a smaller version of it. If you want to roll out coaching, instead of rolling out a full 6 month coaching program, do a paid workshop in that specific niche. This will allow for a less heavy work load while you are still at your day job, and will allow for you to see if there is a market for your idea.

With a smaller version of your big idea,  you will also be able to assess if you know how to connect to and build up your existing audience.  You might have a great idea, but you also need the numbers to back up the opportunity. A micro test will help answer those questions and allow you time to rectify them if possible.

Lack and pressure will push away your money.

When you are trying to build your empire from a place of fear, lack, and scarcity–you actually push away the money. Micro-testing your idea will help you produce factual data to know if your idea will work. After you gather that information, then you can move forward confidently without the worry of quitting your job prematurely.

Secure your financial status before quitting your job in case of rough times.

When I first had the idea for The Goal Digger Girl, I promised myself that I would not quit my job until I tripled my salary. That way if things started sliding backwards, I had an off month, etc. there was plenty of extra money to put aside for savings and to reinvest back into my business. I wanted to ensure that I wasn’t living paycheck to paycheck, even though it was my own paycheck. Don’t launch your idea before the money comes in. Think of this micro test as just another stream of income for now. Give it meaning– but not so much that you want to throw away everything for it.

Micro testing will allow you to grow your entrepreneurial ventures with a strategic mindset and action plan versus worrying about paying the bills. So, why would you do it any other way?

Think smart and let’s get testing!
