Social media is a hub of local and international users who are looking for you. They are looking for someone who is selling, teaching, or encompassing a specific topic. With the competitive digital space only getting more crowded each day, I can’t stress how important it is to show up daily on social! Help grow your audience through consistent posting and by showing up. 

We have seen this with Instagram and now we are seeing it with Facebook

You have probably noticed that Instagram’s news feed favors reels, video content, and stories. Now more so than ever!

Facebook is switching to a very similar feed layout. It will consist of more reels and stories being flooded onto users’ news feed. For the first time ever, Facebook is losing users. Fewer and fewer people are signing up and they are losing existing members. Their users are most likely leaving to go to Instagram or Tiktok. With this being said, the platform is hoping that switching to a more video based layout will help with retention. 

What does this mean for you?

It is more important than ever to make sure your content is making sense for your audience. Make sure it’s relevant, you are using trends, capitalizing on short form video content, and that you are understanding the power of reels and stories. Facebook is seeing a decline in users because they didn’t understand or capitalize on those things and if you don’t start now, you will see a decrease in user interaction with your content. 

Don’t be afraid to show your face!

Your face needs to be seen. In stories, in reels, and on your posts you need to be showing your face on those things. The reason is simple: you need to build up your know, like, and trust factor. People are WAY more likely to pause and read a post if it is a picture of you. People won’t trust you if they don’t even know what you look like. And it’s not a superficial thing, it’s a Wizard of Oz type thing. You can’t trust the man behind the curtain because you have never seen him, it works the same with social media. Your goal is to stop the scroll, you don’t want people scrolling past your content and selfies are a proven way to do that.

The “every other” system works best

On my Facebook account, every other post is a selfie of me and that might seem like a lot but this strategy has proven to be appealing to my audience on FB. People’s attention span is low and it will continue to decrease as the years go on

The average human attention span is shorter than a goldfish, falling at just 8.25 seconds. This is why the number one trend of how content is being digested is short-form video. Short-form video is anything very short such as reels or stories. In other words, it is basically just micro content. Why would someone watch a 10-minute YouTube video if they can get similar information in a 30-second reel/story? We need to capitalize on that and use the tools we are given. Another way to get all eyes on you is through your story

You should be in your stories every single day. Share a quick video about something new you learned or a new product you have coming out. It doesn’t have to be a big production, you could do it from your car if that is when you have the time! Whenever and wherever you create a story, a good tip I have is to include captions. Most audio and video is watched with the sound off, so adding captions will ensure that they stop and continue interacting with your story. 

Adding captions to your story:

  1. Record video
  2. Click on the smile icon on the top right side of the screen
  3. Then click on the captions button
  4. Put it wherever you want to on the screen (try not to cover your face though)

Stories are a quick and easy tool that doesn’t take much effort. 

You can even repurpose content. Actually let me rephrase that, you SHOULD be repurposing content. Turn a story into a reel or a reel into a story. When you post a YouTube training, promote it in your stories or in a reel and drive people to your channel. The reason why we’re doing this is to build connections with our audience! There are way too many people on social media to hide behind a computer screen. You have to get out there, goal digger!

There are different things you can do to feel more confident in front of the camera but we need selfies, we need stories, we need reels, and it needs to be you in those different pieces of content. It lets people get to know you better and builds that personal brand and credibility. If you are ever wondering if it’s too much –it’s not– people typically are posting too little.
