Build Out Your Leadership with a Recruiting Run

People come to me all the time telling me how frustrated they get when enrolling. It can be discouraging when people quit halfway through or hop from company to company. They are either falling off the wagon or not actually launching their business. Obviously, some infrastructure needs to be put in place as far as onboarding and launching to get those people to stick. So let’s learn how to build out your leadership with a recruiting run!

The Thompson Rule

We have to remember that even if we enroll 10 people, maybe only one is going to take off. You have heard me talk about the 80/20 rule or the Thompson rule before. One of my favorite people in the whole wide world is Taylor Thompson, and her amazing husband, Larry, came up with the Thompson rule. With this rule, 80% of people are going to come on board and just want to be a part of it. Maybe they want to pay a car note or make a side income, but they’re not there to build an empire, where the other 20% will put in the effort to build that empire. Think about these numbers, and if you are getting frustrated about people running off, it’s completely normal.

When we start to shift our expectations and look at this whole thing differently, it’s going to allow us to start building for the long term and not looking for that quick win overnight success or getting frustrated when we do actually have a spike in enrollment. I actually had this happen when I was actively in network marketing, before doing full time what I do now. I am actually retired from network marketing. Now it’s weird to say out loud, but there we go. So when I was actively building a team, I would look at the number of people I was enrolling and do a recruiting run. When I started to think about the numbers, I realized that it’s a slower process and it is about a 90-day build.

It takes 90 days.

When you do have a spike in enrollment, you are not going to reap the rewards or see the benefits for another 90 days, and I did see this firsthand. I remember when I had enrolled about 30 people in four or five weeks, I really focused on that next level of leadership. I thought I would hit the next rank in the business, but the people I enrolled weren’t big runners. But it didn’t happen as fast as I thought. What happened is that 90 days later, we hit the big rank. It takes 90 days for people to get up and running and plugged in to start to plant the seeds.

How do you actually use this method?

You want to proactively post on social media and exhaust all efforts, every single way that I’m going to share with you. So I want you to just turn the coin every which way and figure out how to maximize this. Too often, I see network marketers and direct sellers promoting the products all the time. That is a strategy to get mostly customers, but not business builders. If you’re safely hiding behind your products, you’re going to get lots of customers, which is great, but that’s not going to build a six-figure income in network marketing.

It’s time to shift gears!

Post on your wall to let everyone know you are building out the next level of leadership in your network marketing team and looking for people that want you to mentor them. See how you can work this into what you’re doing. Curate a very direct post with a call to action. You will be able to see who is truly in it for the long run. You’d be surprised at how many people follow you or friend you. People are always looking and searching for what to do next. Talk about what to look for in a network marketing company and why you chose yours.

All this means is to show the opportunity to work directly with you. Share your success stories, the benefits of what you do, the struggles before you got into your business, etc. You can do this through story sequences, reels, and TikTok’s. Do it all curiosity style.  A little side note, try making an application for people to fill out. Having an application where people can apply to work with you is a good way to handle all of this. Depending on what platforms you’re on, it can be a little overwhelming how many people want to find out more. You might not have a lot of traction where you can’t handle it manually, but it’s a good practice to filter out the people that may not be the best fit.

You want to work directly with a small group of people that you can build-out. The intention is to get them totally up and running, crushing it, and knowing how to build the business. They need to be able to step up and be a leader to ultimately free up more time for you. It’ll allow you to focus on the things that you love.

Always follow up!

Pay attention to those that are interested. Reach out to them and make that connection on how you can help them. Really focus on building these leaders within the next 6 months – then, soon enough, you will be backing away and scaling. Have them take a look at an opportunity video or the comp plan, then you just move them through your funnel. It’s literally that easy!
