Once I started understanding  the difference between business pages and organic reach, everything changed in my business.

As I have mentioned before, engagement is down about 35% over the  last year for those that are using Facebook and Instagram to grow their socials. Learning to organically grow your audience before you add a business page to your arsenal  is critical for your success.

Business Page means Pay-to-Play

The pay-to-play system requires payment for Facebook to show your business page. This means you have to pay for Facebook Ads, Promoted Posts, and other Facebook paid media to get their content in front of your audiences. When you pay… Facebook lets you play.

Organic is always better

It is understandable to want to start a business page to help grow your brand. The first and best thing you can do to grow your audience organically is to start somewhere building your personal FB profile and other social media platforms. Once you get going and you have a loyal follower base, then you can layer in a business page.

Business pages tend to have less traction than your personal profile

A business page seems like the right place to get started but actually the best place is a personal profile. If you look at the difference in engagement between my business page and my personal profile, you will see that I get more traction on my personal profile. I posted the same post on both my business page and my personal profile; I got 2 likes on my business page and 66 likes on my personal profile. Starting with a personal profile is important because it is essential for all marketers to be able to grow their audience organically. If you start with a business page and you’re using ads to grow your brand and something happens, you are dead in the water. You’re not gonna know what to do or how to pivot. A personal profile that is well established will give you something to fall back on and utilize.

Start with your personal profile then bring your followers to the business page

When you start to learn organic audience growth, your followers will stay loyal. Once you decide to launch your business page, you will have an easier time bringing your followers along to the new page. They are going to allow you to launch a business page without worrying about how you are going to manage fast growth. People who know you, like you, and  trust you will follow you over to your business page. I’ve seen people run ads and crush it. I’m not saying you can’t do that. We run ads. I love ads. But again, if something happens or you want to pivot, learning how to organically build is so important.

It is important to understand audience growth.

I want you to dive into personal branding and I want you to focus on organic engagement on your personal profile. I encourage you to learn about what types of content you should post, how to write a post, and how to create engagement by incorporating a call to action. Remember, a call to action is not “click here if you wanna buy my product.” A call to action is a question that encourages a response from your followers or asks them to take action. By doing this, both you and your audience will mutually learn about one another. Personal trust with your audience is important when growing a brand. A personal profile will allow you to build a foundation of trust and respect. That will aid you when you open your business page.

Get out there, Goal Diggers, and start rocking those personal FB profiles! Make people fall in love with you and your brand. Then… take them on over to your business page!
