Letting your prospects have a little taste of what you are offering and what your products are all about can be a great way to get new clients.  The question is should you be sampling?  If you are, do you make the most of your investment and time? Let’s dig in a little on the pros and cons of sampling and some strategies around samples.  The key with sampling is to be strategic and track your ROI (return on investment).  Ask yourself… is it worth the time and money you are spending on the samples to sample people?

If your company has a program where your prospects an easily click a link and then pay a small fee, maybe just to cover shipping, to get a sample, utilize that program!  That is a no-brainer.

If your company has a great money back guarantee, you may want to consider NOT sampling.  Explain the reason you don’t do sampling is because they have such a great money back guarantee and let them know what that guarantee is. Especially if the product you are representing does not have quick results.  Sampling does not make sense then either.  There is no way the prospect would see a difference with just a few days of use.  Products such as weight loss, or ones that are plant-based.  A client needs longer us of a product to see real results.

If samples are not part of your companies’ program and you are going to put samples together yourself, I would recommend experimenting with charging for samples.  Even $20.  Too many times samples go out and the prospect doesn’t even bother trying.  You have taken the time to assemble and mail it and then they don’t try it.  It can be frustrating. If you choose to charge for the sample, they are more apt to try it.  There is skin in the game. Plus, you won’t feel so frustrated for putting in the time and money.  Simply use PayPal and they can send you payment for the samples.  You may have less samples going out, but more people invested.  You could even apply the money they paid for the samples toward their first order, when they fall in love with the product and want to order. Finally, if you are going to sample, be SMART about it!   Consider having someone assemble them for you.

At first it may seem as though sampling does not pay off, after an initial sale.  Remember when they love the product you are counting on repeat sales, AND you are banking on them referring you to others that will also try and love the product.

Until next time. Get LIT in your business and set your soul on fire!
