Are you ready to crush your video marketing? Let’s go through the 10 biggest mistakes you might be making, and get you ready to rock n’ roll for 2022.
On a scale of 1 to 10, where do you think you are for video marketing? 1 means it is nonexistent for you. You’re not doing it, you don’t do it, and you’re really not sure about it. A 10 would be you do it, you love it, and you crush it. It’s a huge part of your business. You generate leads from it, and you feel really confident with it.
Video marketing is how I built my brand so quickly. I used Facebook lives to start. Once I got really consistent, it took off. I started out with no live viewers, and then it would be one or two people on. More people got curious about what I was doing, and eventually the audience got to a consistent 20 to 35 live viewers. Now we’ve had upwards of almost 400 on our live shows for any given training. That is huge growth in a short amount of time, which is why I’m so passionate about it.
The reason why a lot of people aren’t doing video marketing is, they’re not confident in themselves. It’s usually a mindset issue and not really about skill or time. Those are just excuses. There are 10 mistakes you need to stop making to unleash the power of video marketing, and totally crush it on social media.
1. You’re just not doing them.
If you’re not doing videos, and you’re getting in your head about them, stop with the excuses. Stop with the, “I want to order some backdrops on Amazon. Or, “I’m not sure what to talk about.” All you have to do is just start. I remember for the first video challenge I had to do, I was holding my phone, and I was shaking. But because I did it and stuck with it, I fell in love with making videos. I actually started my YouTube channel right after that because I realized video is so powerful. So if you’re not doing them, just start.
2. There’s no rhyme or reason to your videos.
I want you to get started and just do it, but as you’re crafting your skill in this area and fine-tuning, really look for ways to get awesome results. You must understand that there needs to be a theme to your content, and you need to be consistent with your message.
Think about my videos. You know I am going to teach you something to make your business better. But if I was talking about making spaghetti one day, then another day I was talking about training your dog, it would be a bit all over the place. You may or may not tune in because you don’t know what I am going to be talking about that day. So when it comes to thinking about a theme, it’s so important to think about your audience. You really need to focus on that because then you can say, “What does my audience want to learn?” Get to know their pain points. You need to deliver value to fill that gap and give solutions.
3. Your title is not attention-grabbing.
I often see videos that don’t have titles at all. You need a title, and it needs to grab your audience’s attention. You have to hook people in. I had to do a call to action, but I had to make sure to get their attention. What can you write so that people click and watch?
4. Your videos are too long.
When you start, you have to build credibility where people will want to hang with you for more than 5 to 10 minutes. If your target audience is busy moms, entrepreneurs, female professionals, etc., then they don’t have time. The people that end up enrolling in our high-level programs typically are the ones that don’t have a lot of time. You want them to be shorter and straightforward. A great way to accomplish this is through an outline.
5. Your videos are too salesy.
Doing unboxings, using face products, teaching people five foods to eat for better skin, etc., is a lot of content with a lot of value. The best way to go about this is to educate. Instead of selling your face wash, what you’re going to do is say, “I’m going to give you five tips to reverse the clock when it comes to your skincare.” You want to remember people come to social media to connect, be inspired, be entertained, and be educated. They come to learn something, and if we are only selling to them, then their guards go up.
6. There’s no CTA.
Your CTA is your call to action. The mistake you’re making is you’re just talking to talk. There should always be a purpose to go live, create a Reel, or record a YouTube video. There should always be a purpose, even if the purpose is to have people follow your page. You can end your video with, “If you found this video valuable, please subscribe, hit the like button, share it, or throw it in your stories. Those are all calls to action. If you do have a Facebook community or another profile that you want them to follow you on, or you want them to come to your upcoming masterclass, give them a call to action during your training, during your video, or even a reel.
7. You’re not venturing to other platforms.
We have TikTok, Facebook reels, and Instagram reels. We have Instagram live and Facebook live. We record videos for YouTube and blogs. Take advantage of the different platforms available to you, including LinkedIn and Pinterest! Try some things out and see what works best for you. If you haven’t done a Reel yet or a TikTok, I want you guys to try that.
8. You’re not engaging.
When I see someone’s video and it has two comments, that means your audience is way too small, or you’re not consistent enough. If your lives are not being seen, it’s because you’re not engaging. Engaging is where you ask questions to get their intake. So for me to say, “Where are you when it comes to video marketing on a scale of 1 to 10?” – that’s me creating engagement. You have to interact with your audience while you’re live, during your video, or even a recorded YouTube.
9. You’re not repurposing your video.
This is a mistake because you’re just leaving money on the table. If you go live, this is what I want you to do with your Facebook live. I want you to flip it into a blog post. If you have a website, or you’ve thought about it, hire a VA for a minimal amount of time to watch your video and write up a blog with bullet points of what you covered, and then embed the Facebook live into the blog post. So when they see the blog, then they can click it and go back to Facebook and watch it. I record myself in my stories giving a quick recap of the video, and telling people to watch Facebook live. We also email and text it out. This is all repurposing.
10. You’re not consistent.
This has to be the biggest mistake, not being consistent. No one watched my videos for weeks and weeks, but then they started showing up. So if you’re sitting there going, “It’s not working for me,” it’s most likely because you have given up too quickly, or are making the other mistakes that we’ve mentioned in this blog.
