The Best Way to Use the Swipe Up Feature on Instagram

I don’t know about you, but I couldn’t wait to get to 10,000 followers when I first got on Instagram.

When you got to that amount of followers, you could use the swipe-up feature on stories. When I finally reached 10,000 followers, it was amazing to have this swipe-up feature to take people from Instagram and get them into my funnel. Whether your funnel is a freebie, an email list, Project Broadcast, or even your Facebook community, this tool is a game-changer!

Today we’re going to talk about the best way to use that swipe-up feature on Instagram, because it is literally going to change your life.

I know it’s a little dramatic, but listen, if you didn’t realize this, we ALL have the swipe-up feature now on Instagram. If you are not using this feature in your business, you are missing the mark. This is such a fabulous way to have people interact with your stories. You can take them on a journey of some sort, depending on which link you use, and really engage with that prospect.

How is this going to work?

When you’re creating a story, you can click the sticker button, and you can choose a link to place there. When you use that link, you can have people swipe up, and then it’s going to give them the option to click it, and it’s going to take them to that URL. So let’s say you sell jewelry, and you are wearing a few different brands, but you are an affiliate for a specific brand. In your stories, you’ll say, “Hey, I got this piece of jewelry and amazing shirt from Apricot Lane. Which one would you grab? Swipe up for details.” I could have a swipe-up feature taking them to Apricot Lane. If I were an affiliate for Apricot Lane, it would be my custom link. If people were to click that link, I would get commission on it.

You’ve all seen people do this, but it takes some time to build this up. You have to have more of an influencer-style account. If you’re in network marketing, direct sales, or a coach, you can pull people into your funnel with the swipe-up feature. You can throw in those easy direct selling stories, especially if you have new products dropping, or maybe you’re going to give people a few choices. But where I would like to see you using this feature is in looking for more ways to add value. That way it’s very easy for people to raise their hands and say they would like more from you.

Add some value.

If you had a story, and it was about a freebie you made to help conquer the chaos during the holidays. It could be the mompreneur survival guide to being present in the moment and feeling powerful and confident. This is what you could do:

Record yourself talking in your stories and say, “Hey everyone, I know the holidays are here, and it can be a really crazy time for people. I want to make sure that you go through the holidays feeling calm. I have conquered the chaos, and I am being present with my family. So guess what? I put together my own survival guide to allow you to feel amazing during this time too. Swipe up to grab this guide!” Your swipe-up will have a link to a landing page, Google Form, or however you’re going to do that to get their email information. If you don’t have an email set up, which I recommend that you do, you could drop your free guide in the files tab of your Facebook community. You could tell them, “If you want to grab my amazing survival guide to conquer the chaos, then go ahead, swipe up. It’s going to take you to my Facebook community. Once you’re there, head to the files tab and you’ll see the survival guide.” I don’t know about you, but when I’ve wanted something that somebody shared, I head over and grab the free thing.

People love free stuff, especially if you’re helping them.

I want people to digest my content, watch my live shows, listen to the podcast, and watch my YouTube, because the more time they spend with me and hear about what I have to offer, they’ll know I’m the right coach for them. I hear this all the time from people. They love the way I teach because I teach in a way that they can understand. If you aren’t thinking of a value-based path that your prospects can go through, then you’re missing the mark. I attended Brendon Burchard’s expert academy, went to his conference, and all he talked about was value, value, value, offer (VVVO). 80% of your content should be value-based, and the other 20% can be more sales-driven.

I want you to use the swipe-up feature in stories for promos, specials, and new products. Use it for people coming into your Facebook community so they can come in and get something from you, such as a gift or special training. Connect with people on Messenger – tell people, “Hey, by the way, I would love to connect. Shoot me a message, swipe up, and you’ll see where you can click through to Facebook messenger. Let me know a little bit about yourself and how I can support you in your business.” If you use .me/FacebookUsername, it will take them directly to Messenger. YOUR specific messenger. It’s pretty powerful.

There are a lot of cool things you can do with the swipe-up feature, but you’re not going to get that going unless you take the time to learn it. And that’s why it’s so important to be really coachable and learn from people like me who understand marketing.
