Avoid These Recruiting Mistakes

Are you struggling to close sales? Are you not closing any sales? I commonly get questions about people actively growing their team, but it is not doing anything to help close sales and get clients. We’re going to talk about avoiding big recruiting mistakes. If you are in the coaching space or in affiliate marketing, this will apply to you. Not only am I going to give you what you need to avoid. I’m also going to tell you how to fix it.

My first year in network marketing, I hardly recruited anybody. I think I enrolled probably 10-15 people, which was hardly anybody. I was not good at recruiting, but I learned the best way possible. These skills can be learned, but you have to be coachable. You’ve got to be willing to do some of this stuff I share with you and get out of your comfort zone. 

Since then, I’ve averaged almost a hundred directly enrolled to me every single year since then. So when I’m teaching you in real-time, I’m actively building my network marketing business and coaching business.

The first mistake I see is the posting and the praying.

That’s lazy marketing. It’s kind of hardcore, but you have to ask yourself, is it working for you now to post on your wall and get 30 comments of people who are not your avatar. Are they all people in your company and your team? Are you getting 30 legit people wanting to know more about your business? So instead of posting and praying, you want to think about creating content that attracts people to engage by offering value. But as far as product-related business opportunities are concerned, you want to create curiosity about your business. 

Stop messaging the same people over and over again.

Everyone keeps telling you to message people and follow up. It’s not borderline harassment, but what happens is that person who probably would’ve bought from you is now totally turned off. It is all because it’s just too much. Your job is to get new people in your funnel every single day. You should be putting content out there, connecting with new people, going into Facebook groups, heading over to Instagram, and you should be expanding your audience and moving new people through your funnel. Move them through your funnel, stay on top of them, and you will close your sales.

Spamming your VIP group is a NO. 

You’ve got this place where you have people who want to hear from you, and they agreed to be in there. But when you spam the group with product sales, promos, and new releases, it will get them annoyed. They’ll stop responding to your notifications, and eventually, Facebook will stop notifying them completely. Make your Facebook group value-based and give them something that will benefit them. They’ll stay and just watch it grow! 

Why are you not letting people know that you have a business opportunity? 

Would I know what you sell if I go to your wall right now? You might say, “Kim, you just told me not to sell on my profile.” Hold up! I didn’t say sell on your profile. You can craft that message through your Facebook cover and your call to action. Utilize your bio to write a little bit about who you are, what you do, and who you serve. If you want to enroll more people into your network marketing business, or even as a coaching client, you need to let them know. Get comfortable with that conversation and be proud to say what you do. Have a 30-second elevator pitch and memorize it. And make sure to keep the conversation flowing by asking what they do!

Lack of organization and consistency. 

I know a few people who’ve built big teams that are very disorganized, but I will tell you they will hit a high level and then they will drop off. They are more worried about recruiting and getting their team going. They don’t have systems for their team to plug into and do not keep track of the leads that they have. No lead is left behind! Capture everyone, whether it’s Trello, Group Track, a spreadsheet, etc.

 It is very common for entrepreneurs to stop, go, stop, go. We get really excited and have all the ideas, but when something happens that diverts our attention elsewhere, we will table it. It’s like we’re pushing a boulder up the hill, we just stepped aside, and it rolls all the way back down.  The best way to counteract that is to be consistent. You make your business a non-negotiable where you show up and make it about who you’re serving. When you start to realize that people are watching you, amazing things can happen. 

Believe in yourself!

You can do all the right things. You can post every day on your wall, do reels, have a Facebook, and everything I said, and still not be where you want. But deep down, you are stuck in self-doubt. If you have negative self-talk and self-sabotage happening, who would want to work with you? All of those limiting beliefs are lies. We are not our past. You have the potential to create and do great things. Cast the vision for yourself and build that image you want.
