Build Out Your Instagram Strategy to Crush Online Sales

Build Out Your Instagram Strategy to Crush Online Sales

Most people think that Instagram is just a place to post some pictures. That is totally not it. I would say 20% of our revenue comes from Instagram. It’s not a big part of it. But if we did almost 2.7 million last year, what’s a fifth of that? It’s multiple six figures, probably half a million dollars. That’s significant. Let’s say you are working on getting to $8,000 a month, and $2,000 of it could come from Instagram, would it be worth your time? Yes!

Let’s get you some money – it’s time to build out your Instagram strategy to crush online sales!

Start with your profile picture.

We want to see a smiling headshot of you from the waist up — no more janky profile pictures. You know what I’m talking about? Where we see the flower, or you’re up on a mountain with your family. We want to see YOU! Also, that profile picture needs to be the same as your Facebook, TikTok, or wherever else you’re hanging out. The reason why we want the same picture is because of brand awareness. This is your logo.

Your bio needs to be on point.

List out your achievements so people can see what you have done. For example, I listed I’ve done a Ted Talk in my bio. When people see Ted Talk, they’ll know I am a speaker. There’s credibility in that. I don’t want you to list that you are a mom, wife, lover of Jesus, etc. I recommend adding an “I” statement. For example, I inspire women, I amplify the best version of you, etc. With your bio, we want a really powerful statement. Next to that, you want a call to action to direct people where you want them to go. Then what we want is a link in bio — this is where you will hold all of your links. I use Milkshake because it is like having a mini-website. It could even be an invitation into your community, or opting-in for a freebie.

What’s the feel of your grid?

You want the vibe of your Instagram to be on point. Start with filters. I like to use Lightroom presets. You can buy them on Etsy for pennies. We want lots of selfies. My grid has lots of pictures and quotes, and I do a reel every day. We have a branded cover for the Reels, so it blends in and looks nice. You’ll see a lot of pinks, a lot of white space. You see me and my sweet little family.

When you look at my grid, there is a feel to it. You see that I am boss, and I can offer some great tips. If people come to your grid and see it’s just a hodgepodge mess, they will not take you seriously. They need to really know who you are right away.

You need epic content.

Make sure that you are taking the time to get good photos. I don’t mean to go and take a photo every day. What I do is when I have my hair and makeup done, I try to take a picture when I can. I don’t mean just one; you have to take multiple. All it takes is a really great selfie stick, put it on the timer, portrait mode, and boom. You’re off and running. It can be pictures of you, your family, your dog, or quotes. All of these types of content do really well — one of the highest ones we’ve ever had, as far as engagement, was a quote. People love quotes. Those do really well in the feed. People will stop and react to those.

Don’t forget about stories. You have to post stories if you want to get a spot up at the top of somebody’s grid or their Instagram app. Make sure you post stories several times a day, and then the next day, you post again and so on. Once you get to the top, you’re going to stay up there. That’s a great place. You don’t want to lose that place. People’s eyes go up naturally to the top, and they’re going to check out those stories.

Our number one strategy on Instagram is Reels. It’s easier to connect with people on Reels than on TikTok. It’s easier for me to pull people from Reels over to Instagram or Facebook. You can also message anybody that way. If you are on TikTok, repurpose your content for Reels. We just repurpose, recycle, and move it all around.

Plan it out!

The part that I’ve noticed that people struggle with is getting it all done. You can schedule your posts in advance to help you balance your Instagram. I love the Preview app, so you can actually schedule them, and then they post for you. You can schedule your posts for the day, but you will have to post your Reels manually. We do one post a day and one Reel a day. Being consistent is going to get you further than trying to go hard for a week and then drop off the face of the planet. You’re going to lose your algorithm rating, and your engagement is going to go down. You’re going to be starting all over again.

It is also important to engage on Instagram when you post. It’s about 10 minutes that Instagram’s going to decide if it’s good or not to share with more of your audience. There have been times when I’ve done a Reel and it got 1500 views by the next day. And then I saw it a week later, and suddenly it had 10,000. It’s just with hashtags and engaging on the app. So much of it is dependent upon hashtags

It is time to start building your Instagram strategy and bringing in those sales!
