Build Your Business by Ditching the ATM Method

Have you been living by the ATM method to run your business? If you’re looking to try out a new strategy and keep your sales funnel strong, learn new ways to connect with prospects.

Fear not – you don’t have to ditch the method completely. We can pull different aspects of the method to find which pieces are most effective and what can be replicated with a vamped up version.

When Facebook first started, they coined the ATM method. ATM means to add, tag, and message. Add someone to your group, tag them on a post, then message them as a follow-up to what you tagged them in. With this, many users found they were getting dropped in Facebook groups that they didn’t want to be a part of.

Facebook has since changed the policy and now group members must request to join a group themselves rather than another user adding them without their permission. Facebook rolled out the double-opt-in on its platform. This means if you add a user to a group they must take it a step farther and accept the request on their own. This changed the method dramatically; network marketers now had to start the conversation and ask if the prospect wanted a group invite.

With the ATM method, you’re going through the sales funnel step-by-step. You don’t want to overwhelm or over-engage with your Facebook friends. Let the conversation flow with posture and have intentions behind your responses. Reach out, get connected, then guide the conversation to present information about your job. Once the user has agreed to hear more about it, introduce a third-party tool instead of pushing your Facebook group. This might be a video, infographic, any type of content that offers value and shares more about your business. Once you’ve sent this over, you can decide to wait until you hear back or send a follow-up asking if they’d like an invite to the group.

You can use the ATM method if the person isn’t going to buy a product. Continue growing the connection and invite them to the group so they can get more information without pushing products or selling your business. Be sure you ask to invite them to the group and if they accept, move forward with the rest of the method!
