Create Your Dream Office

It’s SO crucial to have your own space when you’re an entrepreneur. If you don’t have your own space in your home, it’s time to create your dream office! When I first started, I didn’t have an office, just a little desk in the corner. So wherever you are, if you don’t have your own space, put a desk in your room. You can get a roller paper off of Amazon for your backdrop and be up and running. You don’t want to be amongst your family where you can’t concentrate.

Use a whiteboard.

There are two whiteboards in my office and this is where all the magic happens. I want to start a publishing agency and a nonprofit, so I work on digging into my numbers. I just throw things up there and brainstorm. Have you ever wanted to map something out? Let’s say you wanted to do a freebie and thinking about it is just so overwhelming. I map it out on my whiteboard!

Choose a backdrop or background piece.

I have this amazing custom built bookcase in the background of my videos. This was my reward for passing a million dollars in my business last year. Before I did that, I actually just used backdrops from Amazon. If you’re going to use a backdrop, I took green painter’s tape and put the paper roll up on the wall. You can also use a stand where you put up a backdrop cloth.

At one point I had a green screen backdrop cloth. I got a big pole and two hooks to hang it up. The whole back of my wall was a green screen. I can’t tell you how many compliments I got and still get from people messaging me about my videos.

If my background were really distracting during a video, you would be looking at that. We don’t want anything to take away from our message.

Make sure your sound and lighting are good.

One of the other things you should have in your office is audio and lighting. I have the best ring-light ever in my office. I’ve had mine for over a year and I use it all the time. You need good lighting for videos, online meetings, etc. It’s worth the money. Same thing with audio. If you use your phone, you can get a lapel mic. It hooks up straight to your cell phone and clips to your shirt. If you are doing podcasts, you still need a good microphone. I used the Blue Yeti one when I first started out, then switched to a more expensive one recently.

Your webcam makes a difference.

My webcam is the next thing I live by that I have in my office. Have any of y’all seen my videos? Do you think, “How does her skin look so good?” It is all because of my webcam. I use a Logitech Brio webcam and it is epic. It moves with you and it gives you this soft glow. I also have two monitors in my office. I’m very productive this way and it’s magical.
