Learn to Dominate Your Day with THESE Time Blocking Tips

How does your current method of operations look? Is your day planned out strategically or do you allow the day to get away from you and simply just ‘go-with-the-flow”? Are you feeling disorganized? Overwhelmed? You’re in luck, because today I’m going to talk to you about time blocking and the important role that it plays in your success; such as getting all of your to-do list done and still having time for your relaxation and recharging time. These tips that I’m going to share will surely 10x your productivity and help you alleviate the overwhelming feeling that there’s too much in 24-hours to be able to get done.

I am living proof of someone who has completely altered their lives to optimize maximum productivity during work hours and feel allowed to relax in my downtime. It definitely takes time to master some of the tips I’m going to teach today, but if you stick with it, the results are extraordinary.

5 Simple Steps to Time Block Appropriately:

  1. Write down the areas of priority in your life.

Some examples may be family, food, fitness, finances, work, etc. but these are the absolute non-negotiables that need attention every single day. I know how easy it is to get caught up in work or a big event taking up your time, but these areas need love and care every day.

  1. Write out your top 5 goals.

What are 5 goals that are heavy on your heart that you need to accomplish? Don’t write out more than 5 goals; that may overwhelm your mind and deter you from focusing on your top priorities. Your goals should be relevant, timely, and attainable.

  1. Decide what your “rocks” are.

The term “rocks” is a synonym for tasks that are not urgent but are important. If you focus too much on the tasks that are urgent, you forget that there’s other small tasks that are important to keeping yourself aligned with your goals. Maybe you have a goal of taking your family on a vacation. That’s not an urgent task but it’s important in order to keep your family close and spend time with them. These “rocks” should be the first thing that you put on your calendar and schedule time for. Challenge yourself by looking back at your calendar and seeing what took up so much of your time that you were unable to fulfill your “big rock” duties. Pull out your planner and decide your ideal week.

  1. Learn to time block properly.

Entrepreneurs tend to spread their attention to every nook and cranny of their business and day. You need to learn to trust the strategies you’ve put in place that will help you get things done. Time blocking is a muscle that you’re going to have to learn how to use by flexing it often. You should even be scheduling your unstructured time, because when you structure the unstructured time, it gives you the freedom to be free! 🙂

  1. Learn how to shift hats.

Shifting hats is where you are able to pivot at a moment’s notice into a different role. Multi-tasking isn’t necessarily something we should be striving for because you’re probably not retaining much knowledge if your focus is also on three other things at once. Focus on the task at hand and learn to pivot roles in the snap of a finger.

These tips that I’ve described today have helped me completely realign myself with my goals and come up with a schedule for my week that allows me to get everything done. Remember – this is not going to be an overnight change for you, but consistency is KEY with this type of thing. Comment below if you found this helpful! You got this, Goal Diggers! 💪
