I know a lot of you are managing at least one job alongside your network marketing business. Do you want to stay at your corporate job forever or take the leap into building your biz from the comfort of your own home? I am so excited to share with you the topic of ‘posting for profit’ today with advice from an experienced network marketer, my coach and mentor, Marina Simone. Marina has been in the network marketing industry for 7+ years and has battled her way to the top income earner within her company while developing a network marketing training course and being a full-time mommy.
Marina struggled the first few years to make money working at her company because of the way she prospected potential customers. Her strategy was to try to sell to everyone she came across. That strategy included spamming which, we all know, does not work! When she left her old company and switched to a new one, so many people attached her to her old brand that it was almost impossible to rebrand herself. I am going to share her responses to some of the topics we discussed in our interview and I hope all of you find something to take away from her expertise.
“Did you always understand the concept of posting for profits?” Marina’s response was that a lot of network marketing companies, including hers, did not allow the use of social media early on. She didn’t know what attraction marketing meant, so she wasn’t able to implement those tactics. However, she does share that when she did start using attraction marketing and social media, it was like her business doubled overnight.
“What does posting for profits mean to you?” She says it’s a big reminder for her to learn patience while working in social media. It takes time to build relationships, credibility, and a connection with a complete stranger. Her advice is to detach yourself from the number of clicks you’re receiving on your posts, because if you don’t, you’re going to beat yourself up about it thinking it’s something you did and it will show in your upcoming content. Marina says, “I started posting for desperation and people are so turned off by it. This strategy is a process and it takes a lot of patience to succeed.”
I, then, asked Marina what beginner entrepreneurs should do if they feel like they’re ill prepared or not ready to put themselves out there and her response was filled with knowledge. She says, “everyone is ready to serve. You don’t have to be an expert in social media to figure out how to add value to someone’s life. You can serve by helping people to learn, making people laugh, and giving them a space to share their struggles. You just have to start by playing with the info that’s out there.” She adds, “However, when we get lazy and start beating up on ourselves for not seeing progress right away, we revert to spammy posts.”
“What works today that is helping with engagement?” Marina responded with an easy, step-by-step formula to refer to when coming up with themes and posting content: first, who are you talking to? Second, what’s the problem that they’re trying to solve? And finally, what’s the quickest way you can lead them to a win? She says, “when you’re giving quick wins, people will engage more.”
To wrap up my interview with Marina, I asked what she did to actually close sales. Her advice was to sell in your stories rather than in your posts. You need to educate and engage people in your posts and use your products in your stories. She ends with saying that, “the biggest thing for us network marketers is prospecting people. Start with prospecting people that are already paying attention to you instead of connecting with a complete stranger.”
