Be honest with yourself: how often do you procrastinate and waste your free-time with unproductive tasks? A lot of people struggle with the overwhelming feeling that there isn’t enough time in the day to get everything done. I’m here to help you with a few tips I use to conquer my day and to tell you that you can do it!
When you go about planning your day, what is your intention? Where does your focus go when you start your day? What drives and motivates you? Make sure you really understand your motivating factor because it will fuel your flame more to work even harder toward the things that make you happy. Also understand, it’s probably not your time management skills or ability to be organized, it’s all about how you’re thinking about it. Some of the tasks you dread don’t take as long as you think they do…you’re just procrastinating. There’s always an excuse in the back of our heads but, in all reality, everyone is given the same amount of time in a day to get things done – so why can’t you?!
I am going to show you how I manage my day-to-day tasks by time blocking and maximizing every single minute. First, I take my physical calendar and write out my “birds eye view” events. These include all of the big trips and occasions that will take place each month that I have to work around. Next, I like to take my physical planner and input it into digital form. I love using Google calendar because I am able to color-code recurring events, sync my daily tasks and events to my phone, and set up email reminders to help me plan ahead. Then, I fill in the rest of my week with big events that recur weekly; for example, I will fill in when I go liveon Facebook, when I have group coaching meetings, and any other meetings that may happen. Pro tip: Color-code things that are recurring and put them on repeat so you don’t have to do it every month.
Now that you have some structure to your week, allow yourself just a few minutes each morning to write down what your top three goals are for the day and a brief to-do list. I can’t tell you enough how great sticky notes are for quick reminders! Now you’re prepared to make use of the gaps in your schedule with your daily to-do list. Don’t waste your extra time doing nothing anymore! Take charge of your life and be the captain of your own ship. Let them see you succeed, Goal Digger!
