It is time to stop caring about what everybody thinks about your socials. If you are consistent and love what you are doing, your socials are going to blow up. When we start thinking about others’ opinions of our life decisions, we get held back from living our true purpose.
Let’s unpack that together.
Don’t be a people pleaser.
I am a recovering people pleaser, and I think most of you know this by now. I grew up in an environment where you were quiet and didn’t push back to what people asked of you. This was just the way my family was. I grew up in the 80’s and 90’s, and the way you are taught to be follows you into adulthood, which can be very hard to unlearn. We find ourselves so worried about what people think, or hurting people’s feelings. We start to feel obligated when people ask for something from us or when we might have to turn them away. If I need to cancel something last minute, I start to worry about what they might think. But if you surround yourself with people who understand and know you are making a decision based on your own needs, all will be fine. My friends know when I am in over my head and cancel; they tell me I need to take care of myself to recharge. There is always that other time to hang out. And they really mean it.
Being honest with yourself and others to live the way you want will trickle over into all areas of your life, but specifically for social media. The reason why this is on my mind is that when I’m doing audits, reviewing channels for clients, or teaching inside of our programs, I notice this line where we are playing it safe. Maybe you have never posted on social media before. What I see social newbies do is share other people’s things, then they start to feel comfortable posting on their own.
Be authentic.
It’s all about connecting with people and being authentic. It’s sharing your history and where you are headed. When you open up and be vulnerable, you actually will find other people who are just like you. So if you’re selling your network marketing opportunity and talking about all the great things about it, they will sign up based on that emotional connection you created with that person. Have you bought something or signed up for a coaching program because of a person? Why do you think that is? It’s because you related to them on some level. There are lots of people who do what you do. So what is going to set you apart to pull people in?
In my podcast and videos, there are times when I get emotional because of what I feel toward what I am doing and the people out there listening to me. I get real with you and tell you what is or isn’t working for you. Many trainers or coaches don’t do that because they don’t want to offend anyone. During the last couple of years and with what’s happened in the world, I went live several times on my personal profile. We decided to turn those into podcasts because I was very vocal about my beliefs. Of course, I back the facts and research I had gathered, but I truly felt called to say it. I felt like I needed to say it.
Share what’s on your mind.
Start being yourself and share what you truly believe in. Start with small things like something on your mind right now that you really want to share. There will always be people who are not going to like what you put out in the world. Don’t be afraid of what other people will think. Be excited about what you are doing and your beliefs. We are all called to our purpose, and you’re here wanting to impact others. You’re not going to make a difference playing it safe. It’s actually a lack of courage. I am not saying you are not courageous, but you are lacking courage in action. You have the potential to do so much, so it is time to stop holding back!
Make a quick post or go live and talk about what is on your mind today. When you start to realize there are people out there that want to hear what you say, it means so much. You have God’s protection from all the negative that is going to come at you. You will be okay and wonderful, beautiful things will happen and come from it. When you stand in faith, and you do those posts anyway, if your heart is good and you are passionate about making a difference in others’ lives, nothing else matters.
