Let’s talk selfies! It is so important to learn how to take the perfect selfie. When people come to your profile page or Instagram account, they are there because they want to see YOU and what is going on in your world. The highest engagements are typically selfies or pictures of you and your family. Posts that YOU are in. A mentor of mine in the world of social media did a study over one month. She used selfies in 80% of posts during that month. In that time her engagement tripled and her following doubled. That should be some serious motivation to get good at selfies!
It is time to get comfortable with taking selfies and using some of my favorite apps.
Step 1. Take LOTS of pictures. Get different outfits, find different backgrounds around your house, and take lots of pictures with different expressions in each outfit and with each background. It takes a lot of pictures to find those few perfect ones! And get a phone stand. You want to be able to have both arms in the photo. Use a timer, whether 3 seconds or 10 seconds, whatever you need. Check out my Business Survival Guide in the links below my video for products I recommend.
Step 2. Edit. This is where apps come in to play. These are some of my favorites. Lightroom by Adobe allows you to add light, color, tone it down, or pop out certain colors. Facetune2, you can touch up grey roots or fix a blemish. VSCO is great for filters and Perfect365 can put makeup on and even add lashes. So, if makeup is not something you are most confident with or you just got up, this is a great app. Use these apps to get the best version of you, to feel confident!
Some final tips – use props from around your house and change your facial expressions. One picture may have you smiling, another with a cutesy face, or maybe a surprising look. It may feel weird at first. You might even be thinking to yourself; I look like I am bragging. BUT when you post with a story and there is something behind the picture, like words of encouragement and motivation, it is not bragging!
